have taken a great amount of planning, so in this article we will take a look at some of the slot scams that have been carried out at casinos across the world.
The Glass Press Slot Scam
The glass press slot scam was an amazingly simple scam and one in which people were able to empty a slot machine in a very short period of time, and it took nothing more than a little bit of pressure on the reel glass.
In days gone by the reels on a slot machine were mechanically powered and by inserting a coin and pulling the arm the reels would then spin, if you won then the machine would pay you out if you lost, well the game was over.
What some players realized was that by simply playing the machine until a win dropped in then by inserting another coin and pressing on the reel glass this would stop the reels from spinning, thus you would get paid out for the last win again!
In a matter of minutes you could empty the machine of all its contents and move on. With no signs of a break in the casino owners would simply think it had paid out a series of large wins and then fill it up again!

The Rodding Slot Scam
Slot machines in the UK use either a hopper or tubes to hold the coins that are paid out, and it was on the machines that used tubes that this slot scam was used.
The payout tube had, at the base, a solenoid that would, once a player has won, pulse a plunger that would force out coins. Slot scamsters realized that by drilling a small hole in the wooden surround of the machine they could insert a small rod into the machine.
They would then force the plunger backwards and forwards using the rod and thus would be able to empty all the coins held in the machine! To cover their tracks they would then place a small bit of tape over the hole.
Once this scam became common knowledge the slot manufacturers stopped using tubes and all new slot machines in the UK have hoppers fitted, there are some older machines up and down the UK that still have tubes, but most now have these hoppers fitted.
It didn't take long however for those who choose to rip-off slot machines to devise a way to rob these slots machines with hoppers fitted, read on and find out how.
The Hopper Emptying Slot Scam
If you have never seen a slot machine hopper imagine a small bucket with a mechanical type wheel fitted to the side, when a slot machine pays out it sends a signal to the wheel which spins round and payouts the required number of coins from the bucket.
The wheel has a small sensor fitted to it and it is this what counts the coins out. They are very robust and reliable until that is the slot cheats took an interest in them!
They took a machine to pieces and closely studied the best way to rip it off, they found that by inserting a small piece of strong wire with a piece of card at the end up the payout shoot they could then cover up the censor that counted the coins out.
By covering this censor the slot machine would still pay out coins but they would not be counted, and as such they could force a machine to empty its contents very quickly.
By targeting high denomination coins and tokens they were able to defraud thousands of Dollars in minutes.
They would then simple retract the device and walk away.
Once again the machine showed no physical signs of a break-in and the casinos would simply fill up the hopper. It wasn't until the machine was audited on collection day that the loss was noticed.
