How To Bet - Single Stakes
There are many ways in which you can place a wager, and we have put together the following single stakes guide to help you understand the differences in each kind of bet requiring just one stake.
The most common type of bet is a single, this is when you pick just one selection in a race or event to win. You can choose the odds that are being offered by the bookmaker at the time you strike the bet, or you can choose to have it settled at S.P.
The S.P. is the Starting Price which is the average odds offered by all on-course bookmakers, and this is announced after the race or event has finished.

You can also place what is called an Each-way Single on just one selection, this is two bets in one, the first part of the bet is the Single bet above, which is deemed a winner if it wins.
The second part of this bet is deemed a winner when your selection finishes in one of the allotted winning places, IE second or third and sometimes fourth, look out for the places available for each race or event on the race-card.
Winnings paid on the Each-way part of the bet vary from event to event and can be 1/3, 1/4 or 1/5 of the win odds, do shop around as many bookmakers offer different percentages on their Each-way betting places.
Multiple Bets - One Stake
You can also place bets on several selections and have them linked to each other in permutations, so if one wins the winnings are then placed onto the second selection.
This type of bet can be very financially rewarding, often returning large wins from relatively small stakes. Below are the most common types of multiple single stake bets.
Double - This is when you have two selections permed together, both need to win for the bet to be successful, your winnings from the first selection are placed onto the second selection.
Treble - This bet works in exactly the same way as a double except there are 3 selections, and all three selections need to win.
Accumulator - This can be any amount of selections above three in number, they must all win, the winnings from the first becomes the stake for the second, the winnings from the second becomes the stake for the third and so on.
Ensure that your potential winnings do not exceed the bookmakers maximum payout when placing an Accumulator, you can work this out by simply doing the following mathematical calculation:
Stake X (Winning Odds of First Selection) X (Winning odds of second selection) simply repeat this multiplication subject to how many selections you have made.
